(UK) CBS 45 rpm Singles
1962-1965

A handwritten list of CBS singles from 1962 into the 1970s was compiled by Paul Pelletier in the early 1980s, but given the daunting changes in numerical systems and numerous international issues the project was never completed (it also explains a lack of such information on the internet until quite recently - no source material to "borrow" from). Making a start, here is the updated first (and easiest) segment, covering the period when the American Columbia label maintained its relationship with UK Philips but now under its own CBS logo - there was an historic link between the British and American Columbia companies which resulted in EMI owning the Columbia trademark in many countries, thus U.S. Columbia chose CBS (the initials of parent company Columbia Broadcasting System) as a European name.

Numbers in this UK series were also allocated for special issues in Scandinavia, possibly exclusively Norway, and it is likely that all the gaps can be accounted for by overseas records. Although they were labels owned by U.S. Columbia, releases from Epic and Okeh appeared in the UK on EMI's Columbia label from 1962, an arrangement which continued until 1968.

     Any further information is welcome.
